You are Now Entering...
The Earth has changed. However, to most people who reside on the surface, it seems almost the same as it ever was. That is far from the truth. Most are sheltered in the great cities and do not see the truth of what the world has become.They are sheltered from the great mutated beasts that roam the barren wastelands, sheltered from the savage nomadic tribes that wander the landscape, but most of all, they are sheltered from any information except what the city governments want them to know. The last great war has been all but forgotten, buried beneath the layers of time. Even among those who know of it, there are none who know why it started, or even what it had been called. They know only that it happened, and the destruction it caused on a worldwide scale. The war left a great void, destroying most of the life on the planet, and mutating much of the rest. Some were protected within the walls of the great cities, those that had walled themselves off for protection, and remain that way to this day. Others were simply of a tougher stature, effected little or not at all by the radiation, and able to keep on the move, fighting when they had to. They are the ancestors of the savage nomadic tribes who still wander, and war with each other continuously. There were others who survived without mutation. A great many people fled underground. They found a safe refuge from the destruction of the war. At first living very primitive lives, but that was many generations ago. Slowly, both their technology, and their very genetic makeup evolved. Their large settlement evolved from tents and other such shelters scattered about the caverns, and became an underground city that rivals even the great cities of the surface in sheer size. That city is known as The Sarethquen. Only a few generations ago, it was discovered by those of the surface world. The first humans to find it since the great war were greeted by the evolved humans who had been there for centuries. They however did not see them as evolved humans, but as a new race entirely, a race with dark skin, pale eyes, and white hair. Remembering stories of such a race, those who discovered the city simply called them Drow. The people of the city took to the name readily enough, though they share little more than the appearance. Since then, the city has become a refuge for people from all walks of life. Perhaps you were cast out from one of the great surface cities for ideas contrary to the government. Perhaps you lost honor with your tribe for some reason. Perhaps you are a mutation born of radiation. Perhaps you are even a cold blooded killer, running from those who would bring you to justice. In honesty, it doesn't matter. All are welcome in The Sarethquen. And so you journey to the entrance to the underground, and from there, through the tunnels, a strange red moss grows on the walls, giving off a faint glow. Your eyes quickly grow accustomed to the faint glow, and you are able to find your way. At long last you enter the great underground city, your eyes burning from the unexpected brightness. The city is filled with many things, but what catches your eyes is the bright glow of neon signs spread throughout the city, marking the locations of many casinos, and night clubs. The Sarethquen seems like a utopia, and for many it is. However, be warned that even in this refuge, not all is as it seems.
